Abstract:
This study examines the role of verbs and temporal structures in constructing the Qur'anic meaning through Surah Al-Qalam. The research focuses on distinguishing between morphological time and semantic time, highlighting the importance of verbs in determining the contextual meaning. The verbs in the Surah are analyzed by categorizing them into past, present, and future, with particular emphasis on the present tense associated with "س" (the particle indicating near future), past verbs used metaphorically to indicate the present, and auxiliary verbs. The study also explores tools and structures related to time, such as emphatic particles (e.g., "إن"), conditional tools with temporal dimensions (e.g., "إذا" and "إن"), implicit temporal adverbs, explicit temporal adverbs in the Surah, and the temporal transition from present to future in contexts of divine reprieve and gradual punishment. The study reveals that Qur'anic time is not merely a grammatical element but a semantic tool intertwined with context and meaning, serving the rhetorical and didactic purposes of the text. Additionally, the importance of temporal and semantic analysis is highlighted in understanding Qur'anic narratives, such as the story of the Companions of the Garden, which reflects temporal progression to convey lessons and moral guidance.
